What a celebration trip costs, and why we quote it
We do not publish a “from” price on the tour pages, because on a private trip built around hotels the honest range is too wide to be useful. This page shows what goes into a quote, what moves it most, and how to compare ours with someone else's.
Why there is no “from” price
A private 14-day honeymoon can be built on a good five-star city hotel and a sea-view room at a resort, or on suites and a private pool villa. Same route, same guides, same car — and a total that can differ by several times. A single “from” figure on the page would either be too low to be true for most couples, or too high to be useful for the rest.
So every route on this site shows “On request”. When you send the form with your dates, party size and hotel level, we reply with a quote for that exact trip, broken down so you can see where the money goes.
What a quote from us contains
| Line | How it is shown | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Hotels | By name, room type and number of nights | A star rating hides a wide range. A named room can be checked. |
| Overnight boat | By boat, cabin type and route (Lan Ha, Bai Tu Long or central Halong) | Boats on the same bay differ more than hotels in the same city. |
| Private car and driver | Per transfer or per day, with vehicle size | Four friends with luggage need a bigger car than a couple. |
| Private guide | By day, culture days only | Free days carry no guide cost. |
| Internal flights and boats | By sector, with the fare class assumed | Fares move with the season and the booking date. |
| Entrance tickets | At the published rate | Angkor, Hoi An, Halong and My Son publish their prices. |
| Celebration arrangement | Itemised: dinner, cake, flowers, set-up | So you can drop or upgrade one piece without re-quoting the whole trip. |
| Planning and on-trip support | Its own line | So you can see what you pay for the planning, separately from the hotels and services. |
Every line has a supplier, a quantity and a unit. If a quote you are comparing shows only a total per person, ask for the breakdown before you compare.
What moves the total, in order of effect
- The beach accommodation. On most of our routes the last four to six nights are in a single resort or villa. Moving from a room to a private pool villa is usually the largest single change in the quote.
- The month. The Lunar New Year (late January or February) and the European and North American winter holidays are the busiest periods for hotels and domestic flights in Vietnam. The same trip in a shoulder month costs less, and the weather calendar decides which shoulder months are worth it.
- The boat. Overnight boats in the bays range from large ships with dozens of cabins to small boats with a handful. A balcony cabin on a small boat is a different product from an inside cabin on a large one.
- Party size. Car, guide and private boats are shared costs. For four friends the per-person share of those items is roughly half what it is for a couple; hotel rooms do not change per person.
- Internal flights. One flight added or removed changes more than the fare: it changes a transfer, a waiting time and sometimes a night.
- The celebration itself. A dinner on the sand with a set menu, flowers and a cake is a real line, but rarely a large one compared with the hotels.
Published costs we can quote exactly
| Item | Published price | Who sets it |
|---|---|---|
| Angkor pass, 1 day | USD 37 | Angkor Enterprise, the park's official ticket office |
| Angkor pass, 3 days (used within 7) | USD 62 | Angkor Enterprise |
| Angkor pass, 7 days (used within 30) | USD 72 | Angkor Enterprise |
| Hoi An old town ticket, foreign adult | VND 120,000 (five sites) | Hoi An city, in force from May 2023 |
| Halong Bay day route | VND 200,000 – 250,000 per person | Ha Long Bay Management Board |
| Halong Bay overnight, 1 night | VND 500,000 – 550,000 per person | Ha Long Bay Management Board |
These are the prices published at the time of writing. Check before you travel — they are set by the sites, not by us, and they change. Lan Ha Bay is administered from Hai Phong and charges its own fee; we include whichever applies in the quote.

What is not in the quote, and why
- International flights. You will usually find better fares and keep your airline miles by booking them yourself. We plan the trip around the times you land and leave.
- Travel insurance. It has to match your health, your home country and the value of the trip. We are not the right people to sell it, but we ask for the policy details before travel.
- Visa fees. They are paid by you to each government through its official portal (Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos each run one), and depend on your passport.
- Tips. Customary, not compulsory. We give you a written guide to what is usual for guides, drivers and boat crew so nobody has to guess on the day.
- Most meals. Breakfast is included; lunches and dinners are only where the itinerary says so, plus the celebration dinner. A honeymoon is a poor trip to spend eating set meals chosen months in advance.
How a cheaper quote is usually made cheaper
When two quotes for the same route differ by a quarter or more, the difference is rarely efficiency. It is usually one of these:
- Hotels named by star rating rather than by name, so the cheapest five-star in town can be substituted later
- A large boat with many cabins described in the same words as a small one
- A shared transfer or a shared boat trip described as “transfer” or “boat trip” without the word private
- Guides booked for every day, including beach days, at a low daily rate, or no guide at the temples at all
- A shopping stop added to the day, which pays the operator a commission
- The celebration dinner listed as “romantic dinner” with no venue, menu or set-up — and then whatever the hotel happens to offer
None of these is dishonest in itself. They just make two quotes impossible to compare. Ask any operator, including us, to name every hotel, boat and service, and say private or shared.
Common questions
Questions travellers ask most
Why is your quote higher than another one we received?
Usually because of one of the items in the list on this page: a named hotel against a star rating, a small boat against a large one, private against shared. Send us the other quote and we will tell you, line by line, where the difference comes from — including where theirs is simply better value.
Can you work to a budget?
Yes. Tell us the total you want to stay under and we will build the route to fit it, usually by changing the beach accommodation first and the number of culture stops second.
Is the quote fixed once we accept?
Hotel and service prices are fixed once confirmed. Published third-party prices such as park tickets, and flight fares not yet ticketed, can change; we tell you which lines are in that category.
Do you charge for changing the route before booking?
No. Re-quoting before you book costs nothing, however many times it takes.
